Today we’re going to practice saying those three lines. We’re going to do a couple of role playing exercises.
I bring you these exercises to help you develop your confidence to speak Spanish.
Let’s start our first role playing exercise. I’m going to be Sr Rodríguez, the first speaker, and you’re going to be the receptionist. I’ll say my first line, and then I’ll prompt you in English. Can you tell me your line in Spanish?
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, I’m sorry, everything’s full.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Let’s do this same exercise once again.
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, I’m sorry, everything’s full.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Let’s hear the original conversation. Did you get your line right?
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Let me give you a pronunciation tips to make sure you’re saying all the words right.
Watch out for the final O in the words: no, lo, siento, todo, ocupado. Avoid adding a U sound at the end of those words. Remember that the Spanish O is: O. And this is how those words should sound: no, lo, siento, todo, ocupado.
Let’s do this role playing exercise again. I’ll prompt you in English:
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, I’m sorry, everything’s full.
• Vale, muchas gracias.

Let’s now do this exercise without the prompts. Can you come up with your line in Spanish? Say it after the beep:
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• beep
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Let’s hear the full conversation. Did you get it right?
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
To read this conversation, simply tap on the large blue image on your mobile device. If possible, avoid looking at it before you finish this lesson. That way you’ll develop your conversation skills faster.
Let’s now do the second role playing exercise. It’s going to be a little bit more difficult. You’re going to be Sr Rodríguez, the first speaker, and I’m going to be the receptionist. I’ll prompt you in English. Can you tell me your two lines in Spanish?
• Do you have any rooms free?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• OK, thank you very much.
Let’s do this same exercise once again.

Here’s another pronunciation tip. Remember that the H in ‘habitaciones’ is silent. To sound like a native, try running together the words ‘tienen’ and ‘habitaciones’: Tienen habitaciones.
Let’s say this conversation again. I’ll prompt you in English:
• Do you have any rooms free?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
