Today I bring you a conversation at a hotel reception.

Today’s question comes from Thomas, one of my students. Thomas asked me last week whether I could do another lesson with a real-life conversation.
As you know, my mission is to get you to speak Spanish, even if you’re a total beginner, or don’t have much chance to speak Spanish.
The conversation I’ve chosen for today’s lesson comes from my course: Learn Spanish At Your Own Pace. It’s just a three line conversation.
Some of the words you’ll hear have come up in previous lessons. For instance: tiene, habitaciones, está, todo, gracias.
I’m going to play this conversation at real speed. So, the first few times you hear it, it’s going to sound quite fast. As this lesson moves on, you’ll find the conversation easier and easier.
Let’s hear it:
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Let’s hear it again.

And here’s the translation:
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• Do you have any rooms free?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• No, I’m sorry, everything’s full.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
• OK, thank you very much.
Let’s hear the conversation once more:
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Do you notice how it doesn’t feel so fast any more?
Now, have a look at the transcript. To see it, tap on the blue image on the screen of your mobile device.
And now, listen to the conversation while you read the transcript:
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Let’s now say it out loud. Repeat the lines after the speakers:
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Let’s say it again.
Can you say it one last time?
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• Vale, muchas gracias.

Now, without reading at the transcript, listen to the conversation one last time for today. Notice how much clearer you can understand the words:
• ¿Tienen habitaciones libres?
• No, lo siento, está todo ocupado.
• Vale, muchas gracias.
Doing exercises like this, is how I became fluent in English. Using real-life conversations at real speed is the easiest way to develop your listening and speaking skills.
