Spanish podcast transcript EPISODE TRANSCRIPT

Today we’ve got a verb question. Today’s question comes from Barbara, one of my newsletter subscribers.

She says: “I’m currently learning the future tense. I like it, because it’s much easier than the other tenses. But I’m having trouble learning the irregular verbs. Can you go through the irregular forms in one of your podcast lessons?”

See also: Maria’s step-by-step Spanish courses.

To help Barbara, and you, with the future tense irregular forms, we’re going to focus on three very common verbs: decir (to say, to tell), hacer (to do, to make), and tener (to have).

Future tense: DECIR (to say)

Let’s go through the six forms of the verb decir (to say, to tell). Repeat after me:

diré – I will say
dirás – you (singular) will say
dirá – he/she/it will say
diremos – we will say
diréis – you (plural) will say
dirán – they will say

Notice that the six forms of the three verbs we’re learning here are all irregular.

Let’s say those six forms once again. Repeat after me.

Future tense: hacer (to do, to make)

Now let’s go through the six future tense forms of the verb hacer (to do, to make). Repeat after me:

haré – I will do
harás – you (singular) will do
hará – he/she/it will do
haremos – we will do
haréis – you (plural) will do
harán – they will do

Maria’s step-by-step Spanish courses

Let’s say those six forms once again. Repeat after me.

Future tense: tener (to have)

And finally, let’s go through the six future tense forms of the verb tener (to have). Repeat after me:

tendré – I will have
tendrás – you (singular) will have
tendrá – he/she/it will have
tendremos – we will have
tendréis – you (plural) will have
tendrán – they will have

Let’s say those six forms once again. Repeat after me.

To recap, let’s say the six forms of those three verbs once more. Repeat after me (see the verb forms above).

In other lessons we’ll practice these forms in whole sentences. And we’ll go through other verbs with irregular future tense forms.
