Today’s question comes from Lisa, one of my Twitter followers. Lisa contacted me to say: “I’d love to learn some common Spanish adjectives. I’m always struggling for words to describe things.”

That’s why, in this episode, I bring you 10 very common describing words, or adjectives. You’ll be able to use them in every situation, so make sure you learn them well.

Here are the ten describing words I’ve chosen for you. Repeat after me:

bueno
good

malo
bad

nuevo
new

viejo
old

largo
long

grande
big, large

pequeño
small

último
last

próximo
next

caro
expensive

Let’s say those 10 describing words again. Repeat after me.

When saying those ten describing words, or adjectives, make sure you pronounce them clearly.

Here are two pronunciation tips to help you say them better:

Avoid adding a ‘u’ sound at the end of: bueno, malo, nuevo, viejo, largo, pequeño, último, próximo, caro.

Also, watch out for the ‘u’ in these two words: bueno, nuevo. The ‘u’ in these two words is shorter than the ‘e’, but you still need to say it clearly for people to understand you. Repeat after me: bueno – nuevo.

And now, let’s do a listening drill. Can you tell me what these 10 adjectives mean?

próximo
next

malo
bad

viejo
old

caro
expensive

pequeño
small

largo
long

grande
big, large

nuevo
new

bueno
good

último
last
