How to ask questions in Spanish

EPISODE TRANSCRIPT
Today’s question comes from Julia, one of my Facebook followers. Julia says: “What are the most common question words in Spanish? I’ve only just started learning the language, but I’d like to be able to say and understand some questions.”
I love the idea of helping you speak Spanish when you’re a complete beginner. Often, as language learners, we’re given the idea that you can only say full sentences when you’ve been learning for several months. In my experience, that’s one of the reason why we get demotivated, and give up.

But, the truth is, you can actually start speaking the new language from lesson 1. And I’m going to prove that to you here.
How to ask questions in Spanish – Question words
We’re going to learn five question words, and then we’re going to practice saying five very common questions with those words.
These are the five question words you are going to master by the end of these lesson. Repeat after me:
dónde – where
cuándo – when
cómo – how
qué – what
quién – who
Let’s say them once again. Repeat after me.
How to ask questions in Spanish – Speaking drill
Let’s now do a speaking drill. Can you tell me those words in Spanish?

And now, let’s practice asking five questions with those words. Repeat after me:
¿Dónde está el supermercado? – Where is the supermarket? – ¿Dónde está el supermercado?
¿Cuándo abren la piscina? – When does the swimming-pool open?
¿Cómo se va a la playa? – How does one go to the beach?
¿Qué van a tomar? – What are you going to drink?
