EPISODE TRANSCRIPT
Hi, welcome back to Speak Spanish with Maria Fernandez. I’m Maria Fernandez, a native Spanish teacher and the author of courses like Learn Spanish At Your Own Pace, which you can find on Amazon.
Today we’re going to learn and practice some very common Spanish proverbs.
This podcast is brought to you by spanishbookworld.com There you can find all my free lessons, as well as my Spanish courses.
Today’s question comes from Derek, one of my Facebook followers. Derek wrote to me asking: “Can you give me some common Spanish proverbs. I think knowing some proverbs is a good way of sounding more authentic in Spanish.”
See also: Maria’s step-by-step Spanish courses.
And Derek is right. Proverbs can take your knowledge of Spanish to another level. They also boost your understanding of the language, because native speakers use them all the time.
Common Spanish proverbs: hear & speak
Today I’m going to give you five of my favorite Spanish proverbs. They’re all very common, so you’re likely to hear them when you interact with Spanish speakers, watch Spanish movies, or read a magazine.
These are the five proverbs you’re going to master today. Repeat after me:
No dejes para mañana lo que puedas hacer hoy.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
Ojos que no ven, corazón que no siente.
Out of sight, out of mind.
No es oro todo lo que reluce.
All that glitters is not gold.
Aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona se queda.
You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
No hay mal que por bien no venga.
Every cloud has a silver lining.
Let’s say them again. Repeat after me.
