Spanish podcast transcript EPISODE TRANSCRIPT

Today’s question comes from Chris, one of my newsletter subscribers. He sent me an email asking: “Can you help me with the verb QUERER? I think if I could practise saying the six forms with you, I’d learn it more easily. As it is, I don’t seem to be able to remember most of the forms after just a few days.”

The problem Chris is having is quite common. The easiest way to learn the verbs is by saying them out loud. And that’s how we’re going to learn and practise saying the six forms of the verb QUERER in the present tense.

Spanish verb QUERER – Present tense

I’m going to say the six forms in order. Repeat them after me:

quiero – I want
quieres – you [singular] want
quiere – he/she/it wants
queremos – we want
queréis – you [plural] want
quieren – they want

Let’s go through them once more. If possible, say them out loud after me.

Let’s say them once more.

Spanish verb QUERER – Listening drill

We’re now going to do a listening and a speaking drill. Let’s do the listening drill. Can you tell me which form it is?

quiere – he/she/it wants
queréis – you [plural] want
quiero – I want – quiero
queremos – we want
quieren – they want
quieres – you [singular] want

Spanish verb QUERER – Speaking drill

And now let’s do a speaking drill. Can you tell me these forms in Spanish?

you [plural] want – queréis
you [singular] want – quieres
we want – queremos
they want – quieren
I want – quiero
he/she/it wants – quiere

Maria’s Spanish verb course

To recap, let’s say the six forms again. Repeat after me:

quiero – I want
quieres – you [singular] want
quiere – he/she/it wants
queremos – we want
queréis – you [plural] want
quieren – they want

And once more.

Saying the six forms after a native speaker is a very effective way of learning the verbs. This is in fact the way Spanish children learn the verbs at school, especially the irregular verbs.

To help you learn the verb QUERER, I’ve created a Spanish verb course. It’s a step by step course where I walk you through the regular and irregular verbs, when to use the tenses, how they compare, and much more. All with tons of drills to help you master the Spanish verbs fast.
