Lesson 88 from Maria’s Spanish Audio Lessons – See all lessons
THE AUDIO LESSON
THE TRANSCRIPT
Hi, welcome back to Speak Spanish with Maria Fernandez. I’m Maria Fernandez, a native Spanish teacher and the author of courses like Learn Spanish At Your Own Pace.
This is episode 88 of my Spanish learning podcast. Today you’re going to hear a short conversation at a bar.
This podcast is brought to you by kerapido.com. There you can find all my free lessons, as well as my Spanish courses.
Today’s question comes from Barbara, one of my students. Barbara emailed me to ask whether I could do another conversation lesson.
Spanish conversation – Ordering drinks
I want to help you become fluent in Spanish, so today I bring you another conversation from my course: Learn Spanish At Your Own Pace.
Some of the words in today’s conversation have come up in previous lessons. For instance: buenos días, tomar, café, leche, té, zumo, naranja, hielo, queda, chocolate.
I’m going to play today’s conversation at real speed. The first few times you hear it, you may not be able to work out all the words you’ve come across before. That’s OK.
Understanding words in conversation is more difficult than understanding them on their own.
Come back to the conversation in this lesson every now and then. And say it out loud. That’ll help you understand all the words without trouble.
Spanish conversation – Listening
Let’s hear the 4-line conversation:
Un café con leche, un café solo, un descafeinado, un batido, un té
con leche y un zumo de naranja con hielo.
Lo siento, no nos queda zumo de naranja.
Entonces una naranjada. Ah, y también un chocolate caliente.
Let’s hear it again.
Spanish conversation – Translation
And here’s the translation:
A white coffee, a black coffee, a decaf,
a milk shake, one tea with milk and an orange juice with ice.
I’m sorry, we don’t have any orange juice left.
Then, an orangeade. Oh, and also a hot chocolate.
Let’s hear the conversation once more.
Do you notice how it doesn’t feel so fast any more?
Spanish conversation – Transcript
Now, have a look at the transcript.
Un café con leche, un café solo, un descafeinado, un batido, un té
con leche y un zumo de naranja con hielo.
Lo siento, no nos queda zumo de naranja.
Entonces una naranjada. Ah, y también un chocolate caliente.
And now, listen to the conversation while you read the transcript.
Spanish conversation – Speaking practice
Let’s now say it out loud. Repeat the lines after the speakers:
Un café con leche, un café solo, un descafeinado, un batido, un té
con leche y un zumo de naranja con hielo.
Lo siento, no nos queda zumo de naranja.
Entonces una naranjada. Ah, y también un chocolate caliente.
Let’s say it again.
Can you say it one last time?
Now, without looking at the transcript, listen to the conversation for the last time today. Do you notice the difference from the first time you heard it?
Doing exercises like this is how I became fluent in English. In next week’s lesson you’re going to do some role playing exercises to master this conversation.
My top priority in the Spanish online course I’m creating is to get you to speak Spanish from lesson 1. There, you’ll find plenty of easy conversations with role playing exercises and drills.
