Last week I gave you a video with my best Spanish learning tips.
Today, I’m going to show you, step by step, how you can easily master Spanish vocabulary fast.
Hi, welcome to episode 117 of Speak Spanish with Maria Fernandez.
I’m Maria Fernandez, your Spanish teacher. This audio lesson is brought to you by KeRapido.com.
How to learn Spanish vocabulary – The video
If you want to go ahead and watch the video now, go here.
In the video, I give you 20 real examples of how to learn Spanish vocabulary fast, and remember it.
To become fluent in Spanish you need to be familiar with a large number of words. There’s no way around it.
Unfortunately, learning those words can be very time-consuming and extremely dull.
To prove to you that you can expand your Spanish vocabulary really fast, we’re going to try two of the tips I gave you in the first video.
How to learn Spanish vocabulary – 2 great tips
The two tips we’re going to play with are:
- We’re going to find similarities. In this case, similarities between English words you know and the Spanish words you’re learning in this lesson.
- And we’re going to listen to recordings of those words. What I call “vocabulary audio flashcards”.
That’s how I’ve learned thousands of English words. And thousands of words in other languages.
With these two tips, I’ve helped my students expand their Spanish vocabulary without the pain. And I’m going to help you too.
How to learn Spanish vocabulary – 5 words
Let’s listen to the first five words in this lesson.
I’m going to say each of them twice, and then their English translation.
The five words are:
the piece of furniture
If you go through those five words the way we’ve just done, as a list of random words, the odds of you remembering any of them tomorrow are pretty slim.
But see what happens when you start to find similarities. Suddenly, the words come to life, and they stick in your mind much more easily.
How to learn Spanish vocabulary – 5 similarities
Here are the same five words, but this time I’m going to give you some English words that’ll help you remember them.
Blanco: Think of the word blank.
Bueno: The word ‘bueno’ has the same origin as ‘bonus’.
Dormir: An English word of the same origin is ‘dormant’.
El mueble: An English word of the same origin is ‘mobile’. Something that can be moved.
Primero: Think of the words: prime, prime minister, premier, premier division.
How to learn Spanish vocabulary – Let’s recap
Let’s go through these five words once more:
the piece of furniture
